PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATION GUIDE

The 2017 Presidential Inauguration will take place in Washington, DC on Friday, January 20, 2017. Visitors and guests will be welcomed to a week of festivities that include the presidential inauguration parade, the inauguration balls and galas, and the inaugural address where our nation will witness and honor the next President of the United States.

Tickets for the Inaugural swearing-in ceremonies will be distributed in January 2017 by both Senators and Representatives. Contact your local Senator or Representative for more information.

History of Martin Luther King Day –  Jan 16th, 2017

The idea of Martin Luther King Day 2017 as a holiday was promoted soon after his assassination in 1968. After King's death, United States Democrat Representative, John Conyers and, United State Republican Senator, Edward Brooke introduced a bill in Congress to make King's birthday a national holiday.

JANUARY & FEBRUARY   Chinese New Year Parade and Festival in Washington, DC
January 29, 2017, 2-5 p.m.
Chinatown - on H Street, NW, between 6th and 7th Streets. Each year a parade is held in Chinatown to celebrate the Chinese New Year. The event features the traditional Chinese Dragon Dance, Kung Fu demonstrations and live musical entertainment. The firecracker will be lit at 3:45 p.m. A good place to view the parade is along 7th St. The closest Metro station is Gallery Place/Chinatown.

The Chocolate Lovers Festival, an annual two-day festival held on the first full weekend of February, features activities for all to enjoy. In 2017, the festival will be held Saturday, February 4 from 10am to 5pm (Chocolate Chip Pancake Breakfast begins at 8am) and Sunday, February 5 from 12noon to 4pm.
